About Pharmacy Profession

Before diving into the surplus career opportunities in pharmacy, let’s have a look on why the pharmacy industry is so appealing.

The pharmaceutical industry in India is currently valued at $50 billion. India is one of the leading exporters of pharmaceuticals, with more than 200 countries exporting Indian medicines. India supplies 50% of Africa's requirement for generics, ~40% of generic demand in the US and ~25% of all medicines in the UK.

India also accounts for ~60% of global vaccine demand and is a leading supplier of DPT, BCG and Measles vaccines. 70% of WHO's vaccines (as per essential immunization schedule) are sourced from India.

The average index of industrial production of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemicals and botanical products increased by 221.6 and 1.3% in FY 2021-22.

During 2021-22, exports of drugs and pharma products stood at $24.6 billion as against $24.44 billion in 2020-21. The Indian pharma industry witnessed a 103% growth from $11.6 billion to $24.6 billion in 2014-22.

A pharmacist plays a central role between doctors and medical staff. They can be considered the bridge between patient and medical domain. The drug specialists are in a close network with the patients as well as healthcare professionals.

Medicine is the primary requirement in the medical line. The jobs in pharmacy never fall short. The drug store industry requires highly qualified drug specialists with legitimate degrees.

Eligibility Creteria & Document Checklist

  • Age

    Age must be minimum of 17 years as on the 31st December 2023.

  • Minimum Educational Qualification

    For B. Pahrm:
    - Candidate must have passed 10th+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / Biology as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical/project wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above.
    - Must have obtained at least 45% marks in the above three subjects taken together (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category i.e. SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PWD).
    -Must have passed English in the 10th+2 examination with at least 30% marks.

    For D. Pahrm:
    - Passed 10th+2 or its equivalent examination in General Stream Course with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics / Biology.
    - Candidates passed 10th+2 examination or equivalent examinations in Vocational Stream Courses are not eligible for admission in Diploma in Pharmacy course, as per prescribed admission eligibility criteria of Pharmacy Council of India.

  • Medical Fitness

    The candidate will not be admitted, if he/she is found medically unfit. the following Examination are to be done at EWEI (East West Education Institute) before admission (i) Physical Examination by a (Registered) medical practitioner , (ii) Chest x – ray PA view, (iii) Routine examination of Blood, urine and stool, (iv) Blood group & RH factor, (v) Eye testing.

  • Others

    ✔ Candidates must be able to read , write and express in Bengali and English.
    ✔ The candidates must be a citizen of India and a permanent resident of West Bengal for at least 10 years uninterruptedly as on 31/12/2022.

  • Age

    Age must be minimum of 17 years as on the 31st December 2023.
